Following the success of last years event (even with the rain!) and the fabulous time had by all, this years date is set for Saturday 30th August
This year has a few changes to it.
Firstly all the bands are female fronted with headliners being the excellent Dante Fox.
Also to help parents cope with the stress of finding a babysitter for a whole day and night, this year it will be very much family orientated.
There will be lots for everyone to get involved with but as always all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and neither venue owner nor event organisers will take responsibilty for any liabilites.
A good write up was published in The Sentinel this week, it also featured in a lot of other more local newspapers with the run up to the big day getting nearer!
BANDS ROCK TO RAISE BREAST CANCER CASH
NICOLA IRWIN
12 June 2007
A fund-raising musical festival which raises money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer will be staged in Newcastle this weekend.
Seven bands have been lined up to play at the Boob Aid event at The Rigger, in Marsh Parade, for the free event.
Organiser Clare Brereton, aged 31, of Parkhall, has switched the location since last year's event at Crewe's Limelight Club, to ensure a Saturday slot.
She has teamed up with pub landlord Dud Talbot, and together they hope to bring in more than £1,000 for the charity.
Band manager Clare dreamed up the idea of Boob Aid - a title inspired by Live Aid - 18 months ago, and organised the first event in Crewe last August.
The event was well received, and Clare hopes this year's event will be an even bigger success.
She said: "Dud's enthusiasm was great and he really went for the idea. I asked about a night, and he said to make it the whole day."
Dud, aged 34, lost his mum Dorothy Talbot, of Kidsgrove, to cancer nearly four years ago, when she was 62. It has given him the impetus to raise cash for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
He said: "Mum had struggled with breast cancer for two years and ended up having a mastectomy, but it came back and she had a brain tumour.
"If people come to me wanting to raise money for cancer I can't say no. I hate cancer. I'm always up for charity days, they make you feel like you are doing your bit. They are feel-good days."
Music starts at 2pm, with headline act Ten Foot Dolls due on stage at 9pm.
Other bands lined up include The Plastix, who are managed by Clare, Last Scene Falling, Strange Time, Unlucky Stew and Embrace The Noise.
Entry is free to Saturday's gig, but donation buckets will positioned around the venue.
Dud added: "People don't mind paying when they know it's a good cause, and this way you can have a passer-by pop in and they will give something and not be put off by the ticket price. People will throw change into buckets on the bar, rather then feeling they've paid out straight away."
And Dud believes customers will be impressed by the music on offer.
He said: "The standard of bands has gone through the roof compared to how it used to be. You used to get maybe one in ten bands that were really good and stand out, but now it's one in three. The quality has gone through the roof."
Also making an appearance will be The Plastic Girls, models for men's magazine FHM, who will be presenting the show and selling raffle tickets.
Clare added: "This year we've also got a wall of honour that people can attach pictures of their loved ones to on our large pink wall. They can write something on the back of the photograph, and over the years the wall will grow with more pictures."
The doors open at midday on Saturday, at The Rigger, Marsh Parade, Newcastle. The music starts at 2pm.
There will be a “Pink Wall of Honour” at the event, anyone wishing to honour loved ones past and present bring your photos and attach them to the wall, they will be honoured at this event and all future events.
Bruce Mee of Firesworks Magazine has kindley become an official sponsor. He
has donated a years free subscription for the magazine and also 2 Tickets
for Firefest 4 as prizes.

All bands for this year’s event have been confirmed. Ten Foot Dolls will headline the whole event! We also have Embrace The Noise, Unlucky Stew, Strange Time, Last Scene Falling, The Plastix, and My Sergeant Mask! Four out of the seven bands are either all girl, or girl fronted. ROCK ON !!!

Bikinis?...Wet T-shirts?
The bar staff at The Rigger have suggested that they work the day in bikini tops as a show of support! Bless you girls!!
There has also been a suggestion of a bikini car wash and Dud has stated that if he can make this possible he will, the dirtier your car….the bigger the donation to have it cleaned!! Speculation of a Miss Wet T’Shirt competition (later on in the evening) has also been suggested, however this will only happen guys if you donate LARGE amounts of cash! All of these suggestion have come from out going fun loving girls might I add!!!
