About Boobaid
I love my music and I hate Cancer in all forms especially Breast Cancer. I once read a story in a magazine whilst pregnant with my second son about a young mum who had been diagnosed with 3rd stage breast cancer several months into her pregnancy. As soon as her child was born she had an operation to remove both of her breasts. I remember reading that the one thing she wanted to do as a mother was to breast feed but, because of this cruel disease, she had had that natural desire taken away. My reasons for organizing the Boobaid Charity Gigs are simple. I am doing this for all of the families who have been affected by this cruel disease past and present, for the courageous people who battle today to beat it and for all of the people like ourselves, who subconsciously live with the fear that one day, we just might be the ones who are touched by cancer.
All monies raised are donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
The first BoobAid
Last years event was held at The Limelight in Crewe on Monday 14th August. I chose this venue given its history and reputation of being an established music venue. The night went really well and I had masses of prizes donated for the raffle. I had full support from the venue in advertising with posters and all of the rest was done through the usual channels of the internet, local newspapers and radio stations. All the bands involved donated their time and helped to raise £275 to donate to the Charity for which I am extremely grateful.
Last year was the first event I had ever organized in my life, I needed to raise an amount of money to take part in The Aviva Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer and I was only initially doing this one event. However, for me it’s much more than that now and I want to hold this festival every year and continue to raise vital funds for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity.
The Story Continues...MySpace.com
After last years event, I set about building a MySpace profile to keep things going, partly for the Boobaid events but also to help me obtain vital contacts within the music industry. During the time that the Boobaid profile has been open I have met some amazing people from all over the world. Some are bands wanting to get involved, there are countless information sites and support sites added to it, and then I have profiles from people who have been affected directly by Breast Cancer. All of these profiles have their stories and blogs on their current health, all of these people are true heroes who never give up the fight! For me, that’s what is important, fighting Breast Cancer and stamping it out so that we can all live free from the fear. By organizing Boobaid I feel I am contributing towards this battle!
2007
Given the fact that I live quite far away from The Limelight, this year I opted for a venue almost on my doorstep, that way I am in close contact with the owner which helps with all communication. I contacted The Rigger in Newcastle-under-Lyme and put forward my proposal. Dud, the owner explained how a few years ago, he lost his own mum to Breast Cancer and would be only too happy to take this on “for his mum”. He immediately gave me the date (Saturday 16th June) and suggested that it be an all day festival. Dud has worked along side me in organizing this years event and its nice to know that because of his own extremely unfortunate loss, he is 100% supportive in making sure that this day is both enjoyable and a huge success!!
